Research

My research aims to understand processes that shape inequality and well-being within communities by focusing on the social and organizational networks that structure life in cities and communities. How do the fields of nonprofits, criminal justice agencies, social service agencies, schools, and health systems overlap and diverge? How do people, especially those from vulnerable communities, navigate systems that take very different approaches to their lives? How do individuals who work within those agencies and organizations negotiate differences when working with the public or each other? I am exploring these questions and more within my main research areas: urban inequality, social policy, community-based organizations, and crime and violence. I embrace multi-method research and research that is done with communities, not on communities.

As with all graduate students, my work and this website are in progress.
